I am lulled by gentle music, a soft female voice singing words I don’t understand. But then I reason, as I don’t speak Thai I’m hardly likely too. I give up trying and succumb to the bliss of my three hour spa treatment. But wait, I’m not alone, His Lordship, AKA my husband and partner in crime, James is in on the act too! Who said real men don’t like pampering, certainly not anyone I know.

I would take an educated guess that there are as many day spas in Chiang Mai, Thailand as there are wats. And there are one helluva lot of wats, so finding a spa is easy, but choosing one is hard. Last time we visited, I dragged himself all over Chiang Mai old town finding just the one, and I still reckon Fah Lanna Spa is hard to beat. It is expensive by Thai standards but ridiculously cheap by Australian standards. And did I say Fah Lanna is beautiful? It is a destination spa, to coin a phrase.

From the moment you are collected from your hotel in their car, you are spoilt. On arrival you are given a little iced drink whilst you complete their health questionnaire. Then you choose your massage oil. Oh it is so hard deciding! Next you are whisked away to a private room, as we are a couple we share. I’m an old hand so I enjoy the look on James face as he learns the ropes of being pampered. The therapists at Fah Lanna know their stuff, they are professional and respectful. James has the Fah Lanna Healing combo and thus a quite vigorous Thai massage, after a steam treatment before his Aromatherapy oil massage. I enjoy a body scrub then an Aromatherapy Oil Massage in my Fah Lanna Oriental combo and finish with a facial treatment. I could get used to this!
To say we floated out buffed and polished is an understatement! I think now I have introduced someone to the world of pampering there might be no stopping him!
Do you have a favourite spa in Chiang Mai? let us know in comments as we love a bit of spoiling…..
