One of the things we love most about the way we travel are the people we meet along the way. And this trip has been no exception!
The first friends we made were way back in Thailand when we arrived at the Mud House. A fellow Australian travel blogger called Julie and her photographer partner Paul. Together they “follow dusty tracks” of both Australia and Africa in their customised 4WDs. If you love really good photography Paul’s site Whitefella Walkabout is a must! We travelled with them on a long tail boat to Chiang Rai and then visited the Balloon Fiesta together. Sharing it with these guys made these two highlights of Thailand even more unforgettable.
All was quiet on the friend front for a while until we caught the crab shuttle from Kampot to Kep in Cambodia and met Lesley, a Canadian school teacher teaching English in Vientiane, Laos. We were staying at the same hotel in Kep so the hotel put us next door to each other, and then obviously decided to keep all the Westerner together and put Scottish Mhairi along from us. We shared some fantastic evenings sitting out on the hotel verandah talking and laughing into the night.
And now in Penang, walking our little 4-pawed charges around our glamorous gated Ferringhi Residence compound we meet up with some fellow Aussie housesitters Dave and Melinda. And would you believe it these guys are ex-B&B owners as well! Yesterday we took them for an adventure in our trusty car Red to the Tanjung Bungah wet Market. Then on the way home we called in to our favourite liquor store for some whiskey and they showed us an even cheaper place to buy our favourite French Merlot! Tonight we are sharing our favourite beach bistro with them….
