Turning on the Christmas Lights!

Lights, Lights, Magic Lights, Stop the White Witch NOW!

Lights, Lights, Magic Lights, Stop the White Witch NOW!

Yes, we stood there in  the middle of a huge crowd of parents and children chanting this rhyme. Fortunately, or unfortunately for James, I am a big kid at heart and got totally into the spirit of it. And looking around it was easy to see I wasn’t the only grown-up thoroughly enjoying myself. Maybe the earlier delicious mulled wine had helped us get into the Christmas spirit.

I couldn’t resist a warming mulled wine!

This year a story had been spun around the turning on of the Christmas lights in Cheltenham. The bad White Witch (who incidentally changed colour all the time) was going to stop Father Christmas from turning on the lights. She, and her entourage of “ghastly goblins”, hunted the streets of Cheltenham looking for FC. And of course when she found him, the boys and girls, Mums and Dads and James and Suzannah had to shout this chant out loud to stop her. Nail biting stuff right? And of course the good guys won, thanks to all the shouting, and the lights were turned on!

I had to take James off for dinner after that, he was so worn out, or was it embarrassed by his wife?

I’m a cold Christmas Tragic

Despite being a born and bred Aussie, used to hot Christmases there is something special about a cold English Christmas. Fairy lights twinkling on the early dark evenings, dogs in baskets by the fire, mulled wine, real Christmas trees, yup a total cold Christmas tragic, that’s me! My born and bred Englishman, watches me with great amusement. He knows come February I will be keen to go home to warm sunny Oz. He is no doubt right, but until then I have a few more things on my English Christmas to-do list…..
